Aluminium – moving towards a circular economy

The aluminium industry needs to play a central role if the world is to meet its climate-neutral and circular economy aspirations. For the sector it is an opportunity as much as challenge.

Aluminium, being inherently circular, is well-suited for repeated recycling, retaining its original properties throughout successive recycling processes. Moreover, the aluminium recycling process demands a mere 5% of the energy necessary for primary metal production, resulting in substantial CO2 savings. Notably, aluminum boasts some of the highest recycling rates across all materials. In Europe, recycling rates exceed 90% in the automotive and building sectors, while aluminium beverage cans achieve a commendable recycling rate of 76% at present.

CANPACK is steadfast in its commitment to aligning the industry towards attaining a high global aluminum recycling rate for aluminium beverage cans. We actively collaborate with our supply chain partners to achieve elevated average recycled content for the aluminum in our products. Furthermore, our pledge includes sourcing 100% of aluminum from reputable suppliers and systematically reducing absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in accordance with Science Based Targets.

A predominant theme will underscore the paramount significance of authentic, collaborative partnerships with suppliers and some of the most prominent global beverage brands worldwide.
